The 100: "Day Trip" Review

This episode managed to show that doing the drugs leads to a lack of production. No duh.

On a more serious note, the visions and the drugs did provide some interesting sight into the minds of the characters as we got to see both their greatest fears and worst guilts, particularly with Bellamy. Some of them were just silly, like Monty trying to figure out a physics equation.

The episode starts with continuing tension between Bellamy and Octavia, as he refuses to allow her to see the Grounder, afraid that their connection will continue to grow. Clarke and Raven have managed to establish a live-steam video-feed for parents to be able to talk to their children before the first drop-ship is sent down, which is apparently soon. Clarke skips out on talking to Abby and allows Dax, some guy, in to talk to his dad. However Shumly, the man responsible for hiring Bellamy to take out Jaha, assigns Dax to kill Bellamy.

He is given such an opportunity when Bellamy and Clarke decide to check out some bunker that supposedly houses several supplies they will need to last the winter. Before leaving Clarke checks up on Finn, who is alive but immobile basically, and then splits with Bellamy, only to be tailed by Dax.

Octavia takes advantage of her brother's absence to go and see the Grounder, who proves to be very articulate in completing sentences and telling Octavia that his name is Lincoln. She is kicked out before she can get any more info.

Clarke and Bellamy manage to find the bunker before Dax can sneak up on them. They find some blankets and Bellamy spots a load of machine guns, which he gets excited about to be able to fight the Grounders. Clarke deduces, however, that with the guns and load of rations he took that Bellamy has been planning to run away before Jaha or other Ark people can get to him and kill him.

Back at camp Finn and Raven get frisky while Jasper starts tripping out and seeing a Grounder within the camp. Obviously it's just a vision but Octavia starts to pick up on the fact that almost all the other 90 are beginning to trip out as well.

This is also true for Bellamy, as he takes a step outside the bunker after trying to teach Clarke how to shoot, despite his gun not working, and sees Jaha standing there, accusing him of killing him and saying that he will die on Earth. Bellamy also sees the re-animated bodies of the 320 people he inadvertantly killed by ruining the radio. How he was able to see them without knowing their faces was a little weird, but, it was still creepy to see. Clarke also sees her father and feels guilty for hating her mother and for letting him die.

Again, out of all the visions, Bellamy's was the mos interesting. He continually tries to run from Jaha and the 320 dead people but they manage to surround him. What's more is that he sees their wounds, so they kind of are like zombies. Jaha has a big red blot where Bellamy shot him and the 320 zombies all look extremely pale, as if all the air had been sucked out of them (which, as we know, it was). What's also interesting, though, is the turn that Bellamy's vision takes. Jaha begins to beat him up, telling him that the only way for Bellamy to be forgiven was to live. But to live he has to suffer and deal with himself, that would be the only way that he could repay himself--if he suffers just like the 320 people on the Ark did.

Clarke fades out of her vision quickest after Dax knocks her out and Bellamy comes out of it after a while. We get a little mind-game as Dax finds Bellamy, and points one of the machine guns at him. Bellamy, thinking he has a gun, and we think he has one too, goes to pick it up and aim it but there is nothing there. I thought that was cool, at least. However, Dax grabbed one of the guns that did not work and thus the first bullet fails to fire. Clarke tries to save Bellamy but just serves as a distraction. She's really bad at sneaking up on people. But, Bellamy manages to use the malfunctioned bullet and kill Dax, now lowering our number below 90! Oh well. Bellamy has a bit of a breakdown but Clarke gives him a pep talk and the two get on a level playing field to get ready for the imminent first drop-ship.

Back at camp, Octavia realizes that people are just going crazy seeing things, so she takes advantage of that and rescues Lincoln, who out of nowhere kisses her but I mean I get it. He was tortured and she saved him. He seemed to have a connection to her anyway. So Lincoln gets away but we'll definitely be seeing him again.

Clarke and Bellamy arrive with the guns and proclaim that the 89 will only use them until the first drop-ship and real guards arrive on Earth, but until then they have to learn to use them and will not use them unless it is for defense. I'm just wondering how long that will last. Finn is a little less than happy and Clarke doesn't care.

Later that night, Bellamy faces Octavia, who says she had nothing to do with Lincoln getting away. Little liar. Then he videochats with Jaha. He exchanges his freedom for the intel on who Shumlay hired to take out Jaha. Kane arrests him but not before Shumlay can drop a little thought nugget that maybe Kane and Shumlay were on the same side at one point in time.

Instead of just rotting in a cell, though, Diana, the former chancellor, knocks him out and lets him bleed to death, revealing herself as the obvious person in the shadows. Perhaps Kane once worked for her but now it's pretty clear he's on Abby and Jaha's side.

So outside of the stupid love triangle and the obvious Diana reveal (seriously, she was shady from the second she walked on screen) we had ourselves a very interesting episode that once again cemented Bellamy as one of the strongest characters on the show. It also helped establish a stronger connection between Clarke and Bellamy as the two leaders of the group and that maybe there's something more. Who knows?

Next week we get to see not only the return of Lincoln but a parley between the two groups as the leader of the Grounders is set to meet with Clarke and Bellamy to probably discuss borders. How Bellamy will respond to that is unknown but I'm willing to bet Octavia will have to be in on this. Maybe there will also be established a multi-faction Grounder society, as the ones visiting the 89 seem to be relatively friendly. We shall just have to wait and see.
