Man of Steel: World's Finest VS Captain America 3: Stuff (these titles are not real...maybe)

So I've tentaviely titled the next "Captain America" movie "Stuff" because stuff is gonna happen and I obviously do not know what will transpire in Avengers: Age of Ultron. And I'm sticking with that Man of Steel sequel title because WHY NOT DC?! So do not believe either of those titles.

This is only an early, post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier look at the two movies that are to be coming out on the same day, May 6, 2016. Obviously, I can't see both movies at the same time. Human cloning has yet to be perfect.

This is not a decision, however, of which I will see. This is merely a discussion of which I will see first, which to normal people is just as important as seeing it anyway. I'm going to see both on the same day, duh, because I don't want you people spoiling these movies for me. And I'll probably see them twice or thrice.

When it was announced these movies were to release on the same day, I knew that I would still see the MoS sequel first. But after watching Cap 2, I had to weigh my options a little more. MoS has been under fire lately for its casting choices, as well as its delay. Cap 2 is the best MCU movie to date, and its sequel could be very promising given where we left off in this one.

Let's look at our contenders, though, and see how May 6, 2016 is going to turn out for me.

First, this is two years down the line. Things can change. Cap 3 may get pushed back to the later 2016 date, though that may not happen since "Captain America" has had its last two installments in the early summer season. And with the MoS sequel already pushed back, I wouldn't expect further delays. Still, this is Hollywood. They almost made the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles become aliens.

First, we shall look at the potential behind the Man of Steel sequel.

Now, where we left off Superman was not in a good place for most viewers. They did not particularly enjoy the mass destruction, the odd way of showing young Kal-El on Earth, and did not particularly enjoy the fact that Superman kills General Zod, a long-time foe of his.

Myself? I had few problems with the movie. I understood the mass destruction. Look, these guys are some of the most powerful forces in the entire universe. Had they fought in an empty field, they still would have destroyed everything in sight. This was our first glimpse at Superman being able to let go of his restraints and really show what he is capable of. This movie shed light on the fact that maybe we do need someone to control Superman, because if he snaps, bad things can happen. Second, I liked the fact that we didn't see much of Kal-El's youth on Earth. If you don't know the story of Superman by now then you probably weren't expected a Superman movie under the title Man of Steel...you probably thought you were in for like an Iron Man movie or something. It's an origin story that is worn out and I'm glad we skipped over it and headed straight for the action. And finally, I will agree that the murder of General Zod was glazed over and should have been touched on in the final scenes rather than having Superman take down a satellite, but, I mean, maybe it does torment him. Maybe it hits him later that "oh shoot he was the last member of my race." Who knows. Maybe this, and all the destruction he's caused, will cause a sort of restraint in Superman that a young, cocky Lex Luther in the sequel will play off of.

What the sequel has going for it, luckily, are good actors. Jessie Eisenberg and Ben Affleck are known for playing parts well. Not so much for Affleck with super-hero movies but he has come out and said Daredevil was not one of his best flicks. If he can admit that, then he knows what he did wrong and can work off of that for this movie. Hopefully bring a good Batman to counter Superman. And Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, presumably a young one, can work very well if the premise I just mentioned should become a thing. If Superman is torn on killing people and Luthor puts himself as well as others in his path, then we could have something on our hands. Couple that with the only other hero capable of defeating Superman on the Earth, Batman, and this movie has a lot of potential.

But let's look at the big picture here. Batman. Superman. Movie. That alone just sounds so gratifying. It was the biggest news out of the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con. It was one of the biggest news stories of the year. Having seen what Henry Cavill's Superman is capable of, you know we're going to need one doozy of a Caped Crusader to wrangle with Superman.

Sadly, outside of casting and directing choices, we have yet to get any real news out of this movie. We know the main cast of characters we're supposed to care about (Superman, Batman, ALFRED OF COURSE, Diana Prince aka Wonder-Woman aka why are you in this movie, and Lexie...as the Joker calls him) but have yet to see the two most important things of the movie: the Batmobile and the costumes. What do I want on my bat-suit? Shark repellent.

On the other side of the mountain, in Marvel-land, Captain America: The Winter Soldier has given us a heck of a lot to look forward to. We've been introduced to iconic characters such as Falcon, Crossbones, and the Winter Soldier. S.H.I.E.L.D. is tentatively out of business and the world is rocked even though it doesn't know it's rocked. Couple that with a hot Sharon Carter and the "Captain America" sequel looks pretty darn promising.

Now, what I don't think will happen is that Cap is going to die like we all expect in the third film. Why? Because Chris Evans will still have one more movie on his contract. So unless he dies in Avengers: Infinity Crisis (these titles man LISTEN TO ME MARVEL!!) , we shouldn't see Bucky donning the shield in the future.

So then what can the third Cap film feature? Well we know it's going to probably involve a hunt for Bucky, which means that it can really be a good character film for Steve and Buck as they try to rekindle their friendship and be besties, but hey, maybe it'll establish Falcon as the Avenger I want him to be. I mean, he's cooler than War Machine, in my opinion. Why not?

The third Cap film can also feature one of two, or even both, major Captain America villains (with Crossbones figured in there as well). We could see the inevitable return of Red Skull or finally be introduced to M.O.D.O.K. like I've so patiently been waiting for all this time. Kinda thought Zola would be M.O.D.O.K. but whatever.

Anyway, bringing back Red Skull would be an excellent way to not only bring Bucky back into the fold as a good guy but could serve a great way of also establishing the Infinity Gems as something of great power, like maybe Red Skull gets his hands on one.

If they go the M.O.D.O.K. route, then they could work also off of the political areas that The Winter Soldier delved so deeply into. Maybe he was the one that told Zola to find Barnes and he has really been the one brain-wiping Barnes and maybe he is the one behind Hydra, even telling Red Skull what to do.

Honestly, both could work in their own way, but, if they want to end Steve Rogers eventually, then the Red Skull route would make a little more sense, since he hires Crossbones to take out Captain America.

We know that the same writers and directors are coming back for the film, so we know that following Avengers: Age of Ultron they'll have to be generating idea and getting a script ready, if not sooner. We're also essentially guaranteed a return of Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan. Where the other non-titular characters fit in, who knows. S.H.I.E.L.D. is gone but the possibilities are not.

With that all out of the way, it's time to reveal my choice for which movie I will see first, which movie I am more hyped to see. Now both movies have made strong cases for themselves and hopefully both sequels will be fantastic movies to really stamp 2016 into the books (don't you dare forget about X-Men Apocalypse!) as a year that made nerds go, "Whoa dude." And the winner is...

The Man of Steel sequel.

My decision hasn't been swayed. It's not that I think Cap 3 will be a lesser movie or a bad movie, but, I mean, come on. Batman and Superman on the big screen together. There's more to it than that, obviously. After three years, I want to see what Zach Snyder has done to the Superman world and how he plans to expand on it for an eventual Justice League and Wonder-Woman flick. Plus, I really want to see DC get back into the game, as I think that they have all the tools and all the power to take out Marvel and own them like they did during the Nolan-era.

The Dark Knight Rises > The Avengers. There, I said it.

But yeah, Man of Steel: World's Strongest is to probably be the first movie I see on May 6, 2016 out of the two. Can footage a year or so down the line from either movie sway that decision? Absolutely. But with the new, refreshed amount of time that DC has given themselves to make a movie and to work with these controversial actor choices, I think we won't be disappointed. Maybe it'll be the case of "if you didn't like the first one, you won't like the second." And hey, I did like the first one, so, good on me. But it's Batman and Superman. Even if one doesn't click (Batman has only ever not clicked twice and that was the 90s where everything but Disney was off), the other should. I like Henry Cavill's Superman, I hope Ben Affleck knows that he can't afford to mess up this role, and I really want to see Lex Luthor be the super-genius and true leader of supervillains we know him to be.

And can we please, for the love of God, get Brainiac as a supporting villain created by Luthor? I'd even be content with a cameo or an Easter Egg. Just...something that isn't stupid...or poorly cast.
