New Titans/ Nightwing and Supergirl shows?!?!

Alright so this news pretty much just broke but I'll have links at the bottom for you folks to check out but I felt that I had to give my quick thoughts on the news: Apparently, there is development for a TV show based around the 1980s comic book New Titans, which stars a bit of an older cast of the well-known Teen Titans. Basically what that means is that instead of Robin we have Nightwing, and everyone else is a little older. Oh, and probably Wonder Girl. I'm not too well-versed in the New Titans as much as I am the regular, more well-known Teen Titans but I know that the Titans do have a roster almost as big as the Justice League, something that a TV show can really get help from, particularly with cameos it can receive from heroes like Mas y Menos, Aqualad, or Kid Flash.

Then there's the older news but I haven't really talked about it with anyone so I'll mention it here, where it would be cool to talk about. Apparently, Greg Berlanti, who I believe also works with Arrow--the greatest super-hero show ever to grace television this side of Adam West's Batman--is in cahoots with some DC folk to adapt Supergirl into a television series. It's in the very early stages, as in we don't know whose writing, directing, or even the main producers, but we know it's in the developmental stages and is probably outside of the "Hey I've got an idea" type of stage.

Also, the difference between the two is the station. The reports that just came out state the Teen Titan's show, apparently to be called "Titans," will be aired on TNT, since Time Warner owns WB and, you guessed it, TNT. Supergirl has no affirmed station but there is great hope that it'll be the CW, because then it could really have it's own JLA. But the Titans thing is interesting, as it isn't going to end up on any of the other stations, namely the CW when you think of DC. But, if it is going to be almost directly aligned with WB, could this mean that the "Titans" we see will be something of an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for DC?

Think about it: In the DC cinematic universe Batman is a well-established hero, aged and all. That means that there is no longer a "Robin"--unless you mean Carrie Kelley, who is as far as we know, not in BVS--which means that there is a Nightwing. Now, we know that the "Robin" of "Titans" is going to be Nightwing. Couldn't that mean that "Titans" is in the same continuity as Man of Steel and BVS? If so, I think that'd be sweet. Instead of having to make an entire Teen Titans movie, or probably just a Nightwing movie, you could easily flesh out the characters over the course of, hopefully, a few seasons of television.

But there are problems with both, namely in the form of Supergirl and Starfire. First of all, converting their look on the page to the big screen is going to be a little difficult without a major overhaul. You've gotta admit that there are some iterations of Supergirl that are quite laughable. I think the biggest change to her look would be that she wears shorts...or something. Starfire will need to actually wear clothes, otherwise the FCC will never let the "Titans" pass. My hope is that they don't majorly overhaul the look outside of the uniform, in that Starfire still has her usual hairstyle and alien look, because it's what stands her out from the rest of the pack. But beyond the looks, there's the issues of powers. Both females are very strong and use various abilities as their super-powers. These abilities are typically out of the budget of a TV show. Both can fly and shoot things from their eyes. That's some big CGI you're going to need right there.

Pile that on top of having to create the character of Cyborg and Raven, and you've got one heck of an effects budget to work out on the show, especially for a television show.

Side-note: now that I think about it, I don't think the show will be a part of the DC cinematic universe unless the same actor who is playing Victor Stone in BVS signs on to play Cyborg, because you can't have two different cyborgs unless there's a Multiverse thing in which case DC...what are you thinking?!

However, I am all for these shows. The reports do give doubts that they will be made, but I think that the fan desire for both shows to get on air will at least earn both a pilot. I would love to see Supergirl on TV, even it if isn't on the CW. Getting a female-lead super-hero show, a successful one mind you, would be a fantastic move for the industry and would show great progress. And a live-action Teen Titans show would be equally as great, as we would get a live-action super-hero team show that isn't just a bunch of agents and that could maybe do away with Teen Titans Go!

This is some of the most exciting news about comic-book material we've gotten in a while, particularly on the TV end of things. This definitely beats out the Batmobile reveal, which, to give a quick word, looks cool.

DC, it's in your hands, let's make this stuff happen!
