Top 10 Comic Issues of 2015 (What I've Read)

I don't feel the need to predicate this final part of my 2015 trilogy with explaining why I need to denote in the title "what I've read"...mostly because it should be obvious that I haven't read every comic that's come out this year. That's basically impossible.

Still, I've got a solid selection here, I feel. I tried to read some pretty good series this year and I think it definitely paid off. There were also several times where I could barely decide between one issue or another. I've also placed a strict rule of only one issue per series, otherwise Justice League would pop up like three times on this list.

As an "honorable mention" of sorts, too, I'll say that the Marvel Original Graphic Novel Rage of Ultron was an incredible story and was the best Ultron story we've gotten in a long time. It was engaging, gripping, had great art, and really made you feel for the robot and his father, Hank Pym, both in the past and in the present.

So, without further ado, let's check out the list.

Favorite 2015 Anime (Of What I've Seen)

Much like the last "Favorites" list, this one encompasses solely the series that I've seen, judging them fairly or equally based off of such. I'll mention some of the series I have that are unfinished--either in viewing or just that they'll wrap up next year--but still note that I watched more series from this year than last year.

Also, it's worth noting that while Fate/Stay night unlimited blade works did have its second season premiere this year, I can sort of count it as its standalone thing, however, that is a little unfair. Aldnoah.Zero also had its second season premiere this year, and Yona of the Dawn wrapped up this year as well, but it began as a 2014 season and had no break in it, so I won't be counting it. Sorry...sort of.

Favorite 2015 Movie (Of What I've Seen)

I feel it's important to note I'm only saying what the best movie I saw this year was based on the films I did manage to go out and see, or just sit around at home and wait to be released. Much to my surprise, I saw quite a few more films than anticipated and for the most part liked each one that I was able to view.

2015 was a very hyped up year for film, particularly film sequels, and I have to say that it didn't disappoint. Every sequel that was released was good, and maybe even better than its immediate predecessor in some cases. Sadly, though, this does make way for fewer original ideas, which is a dying art in Hollywood and is one I would personally like to see come back.

Luckily, I was able to see more movies this year than last year--hence why I had to do a Top 10 list of various trailers from the year. I didn't see many trailers this year, and I've really only been able to give my thoughts on two of the movies I saw this year, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', so I figured doing a discussion would be fun!

Blue Nexus #34 - Twin Nexus Pt. 2

Kyle vaulted over the leaning tower, all of its windows shattered. The collateral damage was already getting out of hand and he knew the second round of fighting had only just begun. Not. Good.
Sure this part of the city, and hopefully several more parts of it, had been evacuated already but the fact of the matter was that these were people’s homes. Kyle felt a twang of pain in his noggin. Clean up at the baseball field was bad, how about in a small metropolis like this one? That small movement against super heroes in Adelita would be all over the government now, with a much larger voice.

Blue Nexus #33 - Reborn Villains

“We need to go there right now,” Kyle said, hastily walking toward the door. Brenda jutted her arm out, stopping him. He pushed it down and walked right into a red barrier.
“What we need is a plan and some help,” Brenda said. “Riko and Lalay are just as strong as the two of us, and there’s still Alucard there and hundreds of normal people. Where’s Hood Nexus?”
“Never around when you ask but shows up when you need him,” Kyle said. His hands were shaking. He felt a burning in his chest to get to East City as fast as possible. Why wouldn’t Brenda feel the same way?
Brenda shook her head. “Let’s find him first, it shouldn’t be too difficult. He’ll definitely help us out.”

"Darth Vader Annual" #1

I've been a pretty bad boy this year. There's been a major slew of "Star Wars" comics that Marvel has released this year, and so far, I've only ever read one, "Shattered Empire," the only comic prequel to the upcoming Episode VII. So, yeah. Not very good.

I mean, I tried reading Princess Leia. But that wasn't all that great. And I've for some reason avoided the flagship book Star Wars.

But with the release of a Darth Vader book, I naturally had to check it out. The new crossover, "Vader Down" began a couple weeks ago, but I also had several books coming out around that time and, I'm sorry, but "Assassin's Creed" takes precedence over "Star Wars," kiddos. Today's book, an annual, allows for free reading. Or, at least, should.

"Seven Deadly Sins" Anime Review

While it does disappoint me quite a bit that I won't be able to include in my candidates for favorite anime of this year (as it aired last year in Japan), I still feel it's worth talking about, considering how well-received it's been for us on this side of the Pacific. Besides, I've enjoyed it more than what I've seen from most of this year anyway.

Seven Deadly Sins, or Nanatsu no Taizai is a 2014 fantasy-action anime with your expected Shounen-battle series tropes set in something similar to Medieval Europe, specifically England, as it takes place in "Britannia" before the human and non-human worlds were separated.

Much like another Shounen series I rather enjoy, our main character, and for the most part a viewpoint character into this world, is Princess Elizabeth, who finds a tavern master Meliodas and his talking pig Hawk, captain of scraps disposal, and they begin their quest to find the legendary Seven Deadly Sins knight group to combat the kingdom.

"Return of the Jedi" Review

Full SPOILERS for film...but if you haven't seen it then what are you waiting for?

Ah, it's nearly here. That great, big, massive event that we've been waiting for all year long. We've been hyped for it for long and now it's finally upon us. That's right.

Christmas is next week, guys!

Oh, wait, what? Wait...

STAR WARS IS THIS FRIDAY?!?!?!

Welp. Alright then. We better put our "Star Wars" pants on and talk some mad stuff about the galaxy far, far away.

Blue Nexus #32 - Heroes Reversed

Brenda wiped the blood away from her mouth just in time for Kyle to clock her across the head again, sending her spiraling across the base. She slammed into the metal wall, denting it. Her red barrier that protected her impact faded when she dropped.
Phoenix leapt into action, vaulting over the medical desk. Kyle stood up straight, holding up a shadow arm against Phoenix. He blasted Demon magic at him, blowing up the computers along the back. Phoenix paid no attention to it, instead flicking a small metal disk at Kyle’s hand. It sparked upon impact. Kyle flicked his wrist.

Blue Nexus #31 - One for One

The darkness crept up Kyle’s arm, covering his arm in pure black until he felt the power in his fingertips. Kyle pointed his hand ahead, as if shooting an energy blast with the Nexus powers, and released the energy, blowing away a small boulder.
Next to him, Jericho nodded. Kyle sighed, then swung his arm forward. A shadow lurched forward, and wrapped around the boulder fifty yards away. Kyle felt his whole body tense as he tried to pull it toward him. He reached out with his left hand to try and grab the strand, but found it nearly impossible to move it.

"Action Comics #684" Review

Previously: Superman desperately fought Doomsday, and in doing so, saved a 90s kid who thought Guy Gardner was cool, and even managed to blow up part of a small town. Doomsday, our angsty teenage monster looking for love, has moved onto the next issue after Maxima decided to screw the rules and blow some stuff up. It resulted in explosions and then the Guardian showed up. The final showdown approaches. Superman vs. Doomsday, Boy-Scout versus Alien Teenage Grey man! Dun-dun-duuuunnn!!!

I was surprised by the amount of plot we got last time, I recalled it being more fighting than anything else. And while it was majority action, there was actually some fun scenes mixed into the two issues. This time, though, expect far less of that.

If there is a real plot, it can mostly be just considered foreshadowing about Cadmus, and the mysteries that are going on there, as well as how they may relate to the Guardian. I mean, there's progression of events (this is sequential art), but it mostly results from where Superman/ Doomsday lands from the other's punches, as well as Superman constantly trying to keep Doomsday away from Metropolis.

And in that regard, this issue does work very well. Better than most, or at least, since the Justice League was easily dispatched by Doomsday. We've, of course, seen how truly destructive he is prior to that, and after that, but in the early stages of his brawl with Superman, the fighting was fairly level. Remember: the very first punch that Doomsday delivered onto Superman did absolutely nothing to him. Superman took it like a champ.

The second punch launched him through a house.

But that's the brilliance, that's not the optimal word but I'm going with it anyway, in Doomsday and his fight against Superman. Doomsday adapts. I joke that he's like a teenager, and in a very stretched way, he is. He adapts to his environment, he learns throughout his life. It was how he was created and how he has learned to fight. There's a clear difference in strength from the first punch and the second punch. Was Doomsday holding back? Doubtful. But it was a glimpse into what we see here.

Our cover this time is much better than last time.

We now get to see Doomsday with his ripped up jumpsuit, and he is pretty much even with Superman in their brawl. But the focus is on them and there is a solid blend of blues in the background to allow our centerpieces to stand out. Not to mention what's behind them: a one-way sign to Metropolis...

We open with Superman's final decision: to act alone in the fight against Doomsday. That's right: from here on our, it is straight Superman versus Doomsday, the Justice League has been finished at this point. Supes remarks that he was horrified at what Doomsday did to Guy Gardner, but I have to think that a little part of him was just jealous he didn't get to land that punch.

He flies off and manages to find Doomsday where their fight restarts...and does not stop for the rest of the issue. Yes, from now on we will get almost nothing but non-stop action. And it is very exciting. You can feel the hits these guys are landing on each other. Sure, it gets a little grating to see Superman and Doomsday flying away on every other panel, but there is a progression in the fight, and a natural one at that.

And it isn't like there's a lack of super-heroing in this issue. First, Doomsday decides to try and burn his bridges with the Village of Graffitti (seriously, that was what the town Maxima decimated was called, what the heck) but ends up destroying it instead.

Dang it, Doomsday, what'v we told you about burning bridges? How do you expect to make friends at this rate?

Superman saves a falling man who seems to not know who he is. How do you...

Never mind, I'm not even going to bother with it.

Doomsday then attacks Lex-Mart, but Superman reaches it just as Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen do in a Daily Planet copter, to record the throw-down. However, before they can, we finally see what sets Doomsday on his final path of destruction...what really sends him off...

A PRO WRESTLING EVENT!

I'm not sure if I should take this seriously or not. I mean I'm really starting to think that Doomsday is just a teenage boy. What's next, we actually get a comic about that?

I need to play lotto...

So, after his big decision has been made--rather silent, though Doomsday hasn't really been taught to kindly use his words yet--Superman arrives to stop him from watching pro-wrestling because it's violent and teaches kids bad lessons.

And so he punches him out of the market, probably costing Lex Luthor hundreds of dollars in property damage he'll never make back!

Lois's broadcast is noticed by Lex and Supergirl, who we learned from last time are actually Lex Luthor Jr. and Matrix-Supergirl. So, not the ones you're probably familiar with, and this is actually made mention of by Superman.

Supergirl feels a desire to go out and help Superman, as Doomsday is closing in on Metropolis and with her help Superman may be able to defeat him. Lex, though, points out that she needs to stay still, as if Superman falls, the Girl of Steel is the only one left to stand a chance against Doomsday. It's a fair point, but I rather like to think that Lex doesn't send her out on good faith for Superman. Much as the two are enemies, they do have a commendable respect for one another. It's a great hero-villain relationship that we don't get to see much of in comics anymore. There are some examples, sure, where a hero doesn't just take a villain lightly, but there are so few relationships that can compare to Superman and Lex Luthor, even Lex's son.

Doomsday decides to throw Superman under the bus (he also hasn't really been working on getting our modern lingo), but luckily there are no people in the bus. Superman, still dazed, wakes up as he sees Doomsday notice the Metropolis sign from the cover, and realizes that he's made a connection between the wrestler from Metropolis and the city's name. Remembering that Doomsday watched wrestling without his permission, Superman punches Doomsday in the face.

At least he isn't paying for the pay-per-views yet...

And yet, here we do get to see that Doomsday is adapting, and adapting fast. Not only has Superman barely even scratched him, if even at all, but Doomsday is gaining more and more intelligence. When we first saw him, he was destroying things at an incremental rate, from a bird to a deer to a person to a super-person. Now? Well now he's working on other connections. He saw Metropolis on television and can now register that Metropolis is where he needs to be, able to read.

It's a rather terrifying concept that this absolute monster, who has killed hundreds of people in the span of maybe an hour, is just getting started, and the comic illustrates this very well. For every punch Superman lands, Doomsday's strength increases that much. It's Superman's ultimate test, and it's almost like an age-old question: Can Superman defeat himself? Doomsday is, really, Superman if he were to lose all control.

Sure, you could make the argument that General Zod in Man of Steel was like that, as have countless other Kryptonians. But, no. This is the big test for Superman. Is he capable of defeating destruction itself? Darkseid doesn't necessarily want destruction, he just wants an end. Brainiac wants knowledge. Lex Luthor wants conquest. Doomsday?

Just wants to run and shred up whatever's in his path.

Superman realizes this, and it really shines in this fight.

One of the biggest arguments against Superman is that he is bland. His fighting style is just to swing his fists, to use his muscles to solve all of his problems. That's not true. Superman is incredibly intelligent. He isn't as good a fighter in hand-to-hand combat as someone like Oliver Queen or Bruce Wayne, but he combines the power of the mind with the might of his fist. He uses his environments to try and soften up Doomsday. Even when he's at his most desperate, Superman is thinking to both keep the fight away from civilization as well as find some way he can get an advantage over Doomsday. In what way does that provoke stupidity, or a lack of knowing how to fight? He's doing exactly what he needs to do!

Superman, punching Doomsday into isolated hills where nobody is around for dozens of leagues, wonders just what's up with Lex Jr., and even shoots a low-blow at Lex Sr. that he would be the type of guy that would make Doomsday.

But that would never happen, right?

Please...

Lois and company ditch the fight, and Superman and Doomsday reignite their brawl, basically right on top of the Cadmus Project. Don't know what that is?

Doesn't even matter!

They fight in the remnants of an old Superman issue, the fight relatively leveled out as Superman flings Doomsday around various wooden structures. Cadmus calls up the Guardian, because everyone knew the Guardian back in the 90s, and send him on his merry way over to the brawl.

When he arrives, Superman tries to play off the fact that he's running out of ideas when Doomsday comes in like a wrecking ball and demolishes the Guardian, bounces away like Sonic on a spring toward Metropolis.

And thus, our comic ends with the sign of Metropolis, only to be crushed symbolically by Doomsday as a radio reporter proclaims, "We have to warn the people--Doomsday is coming!"

Oh, but it already has.

Anyway, this issue is still a ton of fun. Though a lot of it is dedicated to fighting, it really culminates what type of villain Doomsday has evolved into. While not at all methodical, he now has an agenda and will stop at nothing to reach it. Along the way, it almost feels as if he's absorbing Superman's punches. Superman, too, is running low on what to do and how to stop Doomsday.

There's a real feeling of fear evident in this issue as well. As Doomsday draws ever closer to Metropolis, every character grows more and more worried. They know what might happen if Doomsday does indeed reach Metropolis, even with Supergirl there to try and fight him.

Sadly, there are only two more issues of the Doomsday story left to go--and both are relatively quick, since, like I keep saying, just a ton of fighting...but I'll over-analyze like usual. Next time, though, to round out the year for comic book reviews, we'll be looking at the one thing that is truly fitting for the month of December in 2015;

A "Star Wars" comic. See you then.

Anime that CANNOT Become (Hollywood) Live-Action Film

Let's pretend we live in a world where anime movies would be adapted into live-action films produced by Hollywood with little creative input from the actual creators and creative liberties is the same term as "let's just repurpose the entire movie." I mean could you imagine what kind of a world we would live in if that were to happen?

WHY does this exist?

Is "Revenge of the Sith"...Bad?

Spoilers for Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Am I going to bother you by saying the majority of the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy is pretty bad compared to the majority of the original trilogy? No. You've had fifteen years to hear about that.

Instead, let's talk about the last live-action film of the franchise until later on in December. The fall of the Jedi and the rise of the Sith. When Sam Jackson lost a hand, robots had hearts, and they really pushed R2 into the limelight of comedy.

"Dark Knight III: The Master Race" #1

It's been a while since we last saw this gritty, rather odd version of the Dark Knight. It's one that films have been trying to capture, and possibly will. It's one that most comic fans are familiar with, and one they me happy to see returning...sort of.

Technically, we last saw this version of the Batman in Frank Miller and Jim Lee's All-Star Batman and Robin, but, since that won't ever get a definitive ending, we last fully saw him in The Dark Knight Strikes Again, written by, of course, Frank Miller. Frank Miller, if you aren't aware, has been more miss than hit with his recent work, but was absolutely legendary in the comic industry prior to this century.

Blue Nexus #30 - Identity

The entire building was in ruin. Evart stepped into the thick black smoke from the rising flames, gently falling down into the stairwell leading to the basement. Sirens wailed nearby, held off by a surprisingly fast response from the media. Adelita was the center of so much super attention that this was bound to grab their attention. He wondered if the reporters covering the Lightning and Thunder Tiger battle ever even left.
Evart sucked in the rising fumes like taking in a breath of fresh air and sauntered down the stairwell. Even if someone found him down here, what could they really do?

"Extraordinary X-Men" #2

This is an...odd comic. Yeah. I'll go with that. Is it bad? No, not really. But it's not particularly great. It's not what the X-Men need to come back. It somewhat continues the interesting development the series introduced in its first issue, which I'll touch on as we enter into the review itself, but it also somewhat backtracks on those concepts and more sets up far different things. I fear that the series may not, at least for a little while, be what it's meant to be about. Obviously this idea is not going to last for long--or it will, and get changed back.

Am I being vague? Okay, good, just making sure. It's more fun this way.

"Fairy Tail" Chat

Major SPOILERS follow for Fairy Tail

It's no surprise to anyone that's been following this blog that I'm a fan of this series. I pride myself in that, too. This is a series mired in controversy over whether it's one of the worst of all time, or just some goofy, overrated series. I've said my piece on that, and whether or not you like it is up to you.

It's been a long time since I've talked about the series, and there have been some significant changes in the story since that time, both in the anime and the manga (which I have completely caught up on). Despite the fact that I only watch Fairy Tail in the English Dub, I'm still keeping up with the events of the anime as it airs in Japan and in subtitles over here.

So today, let's discuss what's been going down in the anime (both sub and dub) and the manga, catching up with our destructive heroes of the Magnolia guild, Fairy Tail!

Anti-Heroes and Where They Stand Now

An "anti-hero" is, by definition (from Merriam-Webster): a main character in a book, play, movie, etc., who does not have the usual good qualities that are expected in a hero. Well isn't that just hunky-dory. By that definition, almost any hero nowadays can be attributed as an anti-hero, as most heroes have to have some morally grey background about them. Anti-Heroes used to have a gruff edge to them, they used to blur the line between good and bad. More often than not, they can take things to a pretty far extreme in the name of a good cause, forcing the viewer to question whether they're really right or wrong and create tension.

But, things have changed. Several heroes who used to have pure, righteous hearts are being pushed to the edge more and more. When Superman, the biggest boy scout ever, gets turned into a bit of a brooder, it really stretches what we think of as a hero.

"All-New Hawkeye" #1

Alright, soooo, yeah. This isn't "AXIS," and, while I'm at it, I may as well tell you that you won't be seeing "AXIS" for a very long time. Why? Well mostly because I'm an overconfident idiot who thought I could be able to acquire the books in time for the reviews. Turns out, nope, that's just not going to happen.

I feel awful about this. I've had to switch things around before, sure, but this time it's three weeks of material that I promised that I simply can't deliver on. I know "AXIS" isn't the biggest book that I could review right now, but I was really looking forward to having another month-long review. Instead, I do not. And I sincerely apologize.

Blue Nexus #29 - Out of the Shadows

Brenda speedily floated up in Earth’s atmosphere, Kyle’s body lying limply on the red construct floor. Brenda held it together physically easily, but internally she was screaming, questions shooting out of her mind about as fast as they were moving.
All she knew was that Kyle’s Earth body was still alive, but his soul was more than likely lost. After sensing a heap of dark—Demon—magic, she blasted toward East City, where it’d been slowly building but then all of a sudden vanished. She reached the epicenter of that burst, and found Kyle, where he still had some of that magical residue on him in the alley below. The healing magic from the cube construct wiped him clean of it, but it wasn’t doing anything for him. He wasn’t breathing, yet Brenda knew he wasn’t dead.

"Avengers & X-Men: AXIS" #2 & #3

"But wait!" you may be wondering. "Haven't you reviewed this before?"

Why, yes I have ever observant reader. I reviewed the first issue of this miniseries way back when it premiered, and you know what, I gave it a pretty solid review. You can check it out here for my extended thoughts on such.

For those who did not know what, then yes, I did review the first issue, and I won't be including it in this little run we've got for us this month. That would be redundant, and we're not about that.

*looks awkwardly over to both Fate/Zero reviews and Top 10 Villains lists*

"GANGSTA." Review

The most recent of Broadcast Dubs by Funimation to wrap, GANGSTA. is a show that was highly anticipated. People really enjoyed the manga, and it was looking visually great. By the end, though, well, some people fell off the hype train while others were still riding high. Those that fell off the train were manga readers, understandably so, as apparently the creators began to cram whole chapters together into a single episode. I can't speak for this, as I haven't read the manga, and have no intention to.

Honestly, I ignored most of those comments. If you're going to adapt something, it has to be able to stand on its own without me having to go back and check the material, and see if anything is missing. There were some moments near the end where I felt as if we were missing something, but prior to that, everything was going great.

Luke Skywalker is Still a Good Guy...Duh

Originally posted on Moviepilot.com by me (hence the weird font). It's gotten a good response over there so I figured I put it here. Plus...this needs to be said.
Ever since that Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer dropped that halted the Internet from momentarily allowing others to watch that same thing, as well as our old whiny hero not appearing on the major promotional poster, people have been clambering that Luke is, in fact, Kylo Ren, or at the very least, a Sith Lord. There have been arguments that Luke secretly turned during Return of the Jedi or that he's feeling remorse over the events that happened or he formed this "First Order" and is now evil for it.

"Wytches" Review

Horror comics (heck, Image Comics in general) weren’t really a thing I expected to be reading much of this year, given that Image has been somewhat lacking in recent years. Then I found cheap stuff on Amazon and the triple threat Warren Ellis-Declan Shavley-Jordie Bellaire took on Injection and here we are now. While Injection isn’t really a “horror” comic, today’s review certainly is. Have to squeeze a little something extra in for Halloween, right?

"Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign" Review

Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign, or Owari no Seraph, premiered earlier this year and was Broadcast Dubbed by Funimation. It's second part, the first only being twelve episodes, also began just three weeks ago. It was widely hyped before it premiered. Tons of people were looking forward to it, myself included. But the time warp that was this summer occurred and I never got back around to it. Come the end, I discovered what people really thought it, and it was a stark contrast to what the series was originally hyped to be.

Blue Nexus #28--Into the Nether!

It was dense. Cold. Bleak. The sky was dark grey. The cliffs were pure black. There was no changing light in the sky. There was no wind. There was no noise. It was purely still.
For as far as one could see, there was nothing but dark grey and black. The cliffs cut into the sky overhead as well. It had to be a quarry of sorts, then. There were a few black boulders that slowly came into view, constructing themselves from mere blurry polygons.
Not even steps made a sound. There was no crunching of the gravel below, nor the slight thump one heard when landing a foot on the ground.
            Sheer silence.

"Justice League" #45 Review

Well, after the cataclysm of last month's issue, this month's Justice League isn't letting up any time soon. Even though only one character died, it would seem that everyone is now going through some, well...

The arc so far has been nothing short of amazing. Incredible action, stunning artwork, compelling plot twists, and a scope so big that this may affect the team for a very long time to come, even more so than "Forever Evil" did two years ago.

"Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'" Review

The latest of the "Dragon Ball" films finally sees its national DVD/Blu-Ray/Digital release today, and as such, I'm finally able to watch it and review it. I've been looking forward to this movie for quite a while. As a fan of Dragon Ball Z, why wouldn't I be? It's the return of Frieza, one of the best villains of the series and one of the most recurring ones. You can never put a good villain down, I suppose.

The premise of the movie, much like any "Dragon Ball" film, is fairly simple: Frieza's been resurrected and he's headed to Earth to seek revenge on Goku and Future Trunks. Obviously, Future Trunks is no longer around since he returned to the future several years prior, so Frieza settles for Goku. And so the war for the Earth is to be waged.

Can 'Assassin's Creed' Return to Glory?

I'd be remiss to mention that I followed this series with vigorous dedication through last year. Why stop? Because the series sort of hit a peak when we raised the Black Flag and sailed to create a great land of pirates, filled with freedom, random Assassins, and a sort of weak story but was made up by incredible gameplay and visuals!

Then, we got glitches. And more glitches. And then some more bugs. And a forced-to-be-free DLC. And the lacking use of an era filled with potential for an AC story, and just give us the ambiance with little more execution. Match all that with a lackluster current day story line and...

Wow. "Syndicate" needs to be through the roof awesome. Though, that's not the vibe I'm getting from this series.

Blue Nexus #27--Conference

Traffic flowing into East City wasn’t too bad, but Boomer felt himself growing more and more impatient by the second. In a world where there were more people being known to fly than species being found, he really wished he could sprout that ability right about now. Instead he was stuck in a five year-old car driving three hours toward a metropolitan area—where parking would be all but impossible—to find a man he had never really met, and was only following a hunch on where to find him.
What a glorious situation. The world might be ending, he might be getting betrayed, and he was stuck driving some car to some city.

Green Arrow (2011) #35-40 Review

Well, Arrow is coming back for a fourth season tonight, and there is going to be a dramatic shift in terms of tone for the season, apparently. I'm completely fine with that. Last season tried to get super dark and edgy and instead, mixed with horrendous marketing and early spoilers, it ended up a colossal mess, the highlight of the season being the stuff early on with the various archers, anything with Nyssa, and Episode 18 "Public Enemies," which is actually one of the best Arrow episodes yet.

I bring up "Public Enemies" because of its impact on what we're taking a look at today. Around this time last year, I took a look at Green Arrow #35, in which the creative team behind Arrow took over the Green Arrow comic. You can check out the review here. When it first came out, I loved the book. After going over it again, and in a complete story?

Yeaaaahhh, not so much.

Top 10 Favorite Movies

On this day last year I did my Top 10 Favorite TV Shows (click the link to check it out), so, this year I figure I would jump straight into the day with my Top 10 Favorite Movies, a list that is actually much harder to compile, as I watch far more TV series than I do movies. However, since I figured out what movies go where on the list, things haven't changed. The same definitely can't be said about my favorite TV shows, where I know things are different.

Of course, as this is a Top 10 list, it's a biased perspective about these movies. Also, these are not the Top 10 "Greatest" movies of all time, simply my favorites. So if there are weird choices you would never think would be on here, well, it's because they're my choice. I can promise you that my Top 10 is probably different than your Top 10.

Blog Update #5: Halloween/ November Event

Ah, October. The best month of the year. At some points, the busiest. At others, the most relaxing. I've gone into detail why October is the best, in an actual blog post, so I don't feel the real need to divulge the reasons behind it. Needless to say, though, the entertainment industry really starts to kick into gear around October/ November, and this year is certainly no exception.

In November, one of the most anticipated games (probably) ever is coming out in Star Wars: Battlefront and later this month we'll see a new Supergirl series, which I'm very optimistic about. I love Supergirl and this adaptation so far seems like it'll take good care of the character.

Superman #74 & The Adventures of Superman #497 Review

Previously, in the story: Doomsday, assuredly an angsty teenage alien with strange crystals, has begun to ravage the Earth because he wants people to notice him. Superman stopped a giant drill in Metropolis then went on a reality TV series where some punk 90s kid thought Guy Gardner was cooler than him. After blowing up a truck he wanted for Christmas, Doomsday took on the Justice League and basically smacked them around like volleyball before Booster Gold was literally punched away and Superman found him, ready to spin some truth, justice, and 'merica toward Doomsday.

Blue Nexus #26--Boomer Sooner

An uncomfortable silence fell into the courtyard. Patton looked back and forth between the two Nexuses, waiting for a response of some kind. Kyle was completely unsure of what to say.
Two hundred fifty people just vanishing with nobody making a big deal out of it? That’s insane, almost impossible. Then again, how had he or anyone in the Zanderia not noticed? It was all from one city, so it would be concentrated, and since it was a major East Coast city, it would have sparked something on a scanner, wouldn’t it? Eclipse should have noticed y now for sure.
Kyle stole a glance up to Hood Nexus, who was in deep thought as well. Patton sighed, then placed her hands on her hips in impatience.

"Death Parade" Review

Tell ya this much, I'm dying to see just one short of Light Yagami being judged by Decim or Ginti. Probably be one heck of an anime special.

Ah, Death Parade. Much as 2015 has brought us some lackluster anime, with little to nothing (barring sequel series) original coming out, it has also brought us some of the weirdest series I've gotten the pleasure to view. Virgin witches fighting battles against the French and British while being judged by God. An octopus creature capable of destroying the Earth teaching a class of roudy students to become professional assassins. Robots from Mars and Earth being piloted by various youth with a rocking soundtrack. And who could forget the continuing adventures of a whimsical little wizard guild doing on all sorts of fun things, and going on magical journies full of friendship and wonder and happiness!

Should Dragon Rulers return to Yu-Gi-Oh!?

The October 2015 Forbidden/Limited List is on its way soon, possibly even being revealed within the next week, and so as it approaches I can only help but wonder two things: 1. Are they really going to keep Stratos on the Forbidden List for more formats? 2. Should the "Dragon Rulers" come back?

Now, granted, there are a lot of things that need to happen in order for either of those things to happen. I'm not honestly not too sure what we'll see this coming list. I'll assume Elder Entity Norden gets a solid Limiting, as might Instant Fusion as those two go together well. Therefore Super Polymerization will probably stay on the list. And, given that Satellarknights won the 2015 World Championship, some of their key cards will also see a bit of a hit. Maybe even Necroz, because why not? I wouldn't be mad.
